Curcumin is a good antioxidant, but it is especially effective in helping to reduce inflammation. For these reasons, curcumin provides many health benefits. The raw material used in the Better Curcumin formula is the only form of curcumin shown to pass through the blood brain barrier and improve memory (Cox KH, et al. 2015).

This study also showed a significant reduction in both total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, the so-called bad cholesterol.

The following research show that this form of curcumin is 65 times more bioavailable than regular curcumin (Gota VS, et al. 2010).




Curcumin has an anti-inflammatory effect. It protects the human chondrocytes (cartilage cells) from degradation (breakdown) affecting several biochemical pathways (Henrotin Y, et al. 2010). It is also a good antioxidant.

Curcumin has been found to reduce IL-1beta induced NF-kappaB activation (Buhrmann C, et al. 2011). These are inflammatory compounds.

Curcumin also down regulated MMP-1, 9 and 13, enzymes involved in tendon degradation.



More health benefits of Curcumin


Vascular endothelial function declines with aging and is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Curcumin has been documented to improve flow-mediated dilation as much as exercise (Akazava N, et al. 2012).

Flow-mediated dilation is an indicator of endothelial function. Consequently, the health and function of the blood vessels improved, because the endothelium is the inner lining of the blood vessels.

Inflammation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

C-reactive protein, an inflammatory marker, has been identified as a strong predictor and independent risk factor of cardiovascular disease, and supplementation with curcumin has been associated with a significant reduction in C-reactive protein (Sahebkar A, 2014).

Higher levels of the inflammatory marker hs-CRP (highly sensitive C-reactive protein) have been associated with worse performance in executive function (Wersching H, et al. 2010). High levels of hs-CRP can be used to identify individuals at an increased risk for cognitive decline (Komulainen P, et al. 2007).

Based on another study, working memory and mood were found to be significantly better after taking curcumin for 4 weeks (Cox KH, et al. 2015).

Total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were also significantly reduced.


Using Curcumin Extracts


Taking 500 mg of a patented curcumin extract twice daily for 8 weeks was associated with a decrease in depressive symptoms (Lopresti AL,, 2014). This needs to be linked to the correct reference and has to be exchanged in the reference list for the Lopresti 2015.

Research has shown a significant effect of curcumin in lowering the inflammatory marker IL-6 (Derosa G, et al. 2016).

IL-6 is one of the inflammatory markers involved in a symptomatic disc of the low back (Kim J.H., et al. 2008).

Curcumin has been found to reduce IL-1beta induced NF-kappaB activation (Buhrmann C, et al. 2011). These are inflammatory compounds involved in tendonitis.

Elevated inflammatory markers have also been found to increase the risk of fractures in both men and women (Cauley JA, et al. 2016Cauley JA, et al. 2007).

Reduced inflammation is one of these benefits.


The researchers of this double-blind study gave boron to patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis and found that the boron reduced the inflammatory markers C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate when compared with the placebo group (Scorei R,, 2011).

After 60 days of supplementation with boron in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, the inflammatory markers erythrocyte sedimentation rate, highly sensitive C-reactive protein, IL-1alpha, IL-6 and TNF-alpha were all significantly reduced, and symptoms were improved (Hussain SA,, 2016).



Boron supplementation markedly reduced the urinary excretion of calcium and magnesium in postmenopausal women, consistent with the prevention of calcium loss and bone demineralization (Neilsen FH,, 1987).
